Post Deamon Rat no more.........
hi all some of you know i am the new owner of the so called Deamon Rat Capri that won best rat last year or so i was told. Well from the 30/09/09 the car will be off the road to get restored with some welding and some NICE paint and also some machanical work manly suspension to start with. i will keep track of things on here when things start to move along but at the moment i am hunting parts ect.

one of the parts i would like to ask you all a question on is the rear leaf springs, i am gonna put the 2.8i ones on there that i am getting from Motorspares but they have two types a normail set and a havey duty set i take it the havey duty set will be stiffer but will they fit the same or am i best of going with the normail set?

Thanks Ryan

Never heard of there being 2 types.....not of single leafs anyway. Go standard, use 1" lowering blocks, adjustable shocks and an x - frame axle kit and your rear will be sorted for ever!

Been at Barnham with Ryan today and was well impressed at how un-rotten his Capri is, looks much worse than it actually is. But did put a screwdriver through the floor for him on a rusty bit!!! Laughing

i have been doing so thinking on the capri and been wondering if it is practical to get back on the road i know the last coment looked good for it life but there is far more that i have now found as well as needing a new boot a new bonnet and glass yes it is true it not that bad on the floor but on closer look the chasie rails are shot, looks like they have been repared but they need redoing to get though and mot.
so i was wanting the here your advise on what should be done remembering i am thinking along the practial lines should i just repare the areas and hope it pass's mot after all the work as been done or just admit i bought a bit of a leomon and part it out and send it to the big blue oval in the sky and hope to get some money back.

i know some of you hate seeing fords ending this way , but the idea of the car was so the wife and kids could come out to the shows.

At the end of the day, its all down to whether you think its worth spending your time and money on. For example, not many people would put the money into a standard basic Cortina like i have, but I like my car, and personally think it was worth doing. Il never make my money back if i sold it, but it makes me happy driving it. I wish you the best of luck with whatever you choose to do mate!

Dont think about it, just keep cutting until you get to good metal and then repair and replace. Look at how bad the Cortina was, the Capri you have is by no means beyond redemption. Dont worry, just weld!!!!! Laughing

If you want some inspiration on rotten chassis rails, come and look at the Brookie!!! Yours will be a walk in the park in comparison.

As Mr Carman says, at the end of the day we can all sit here and bash away at the keys saying to go one route or the other but it really does lay in your lap...... Do you want to do it? Will it take all your time up doing it? Will it be worth it in the end?

Good luck though with whichever decision you make.

Wink
